Foyer Gallery, Artspace Mackay
04 February - 16 May 2021
Tony Druery (1964 - 2016) was an artist and educator in the Mackay community, creating images that spoke to his love of the water, the Australian outback and scenes closer to home. His dynamic fish-eye views of Mackay’s construction boom in the late 2000s capture a rapidly changing cityscape at an important time in the town’s recent history. Druery’s linocut prints exploit the visual attractions of cranes and scaffolding while also expressing the disorientation felt by many of Mackay’s local residents at the time. In recognition of Druery’s untimely death, the exhibition will showcase well-loved works alongside unexhibited pieces to commemorate his legacy within the local arts community.
