About the Event
About
Join Dindima Wines for a unique Winter Fire Festival experience, featuring an Acknowledgement of Country conducted in Wiradjuri and English by Michael Newman, a young Wiradjuri man. The Acknowledgement will mark the beginning of the Fires in the Sky event. This will be followed by stargazing with a Wiradjuri and cross-cultural astronomy focus, an Indigenous fibre arts activity for children and interested adults, along with bush tucka and Dindima wines.
You will be guided along your fiery night sky journey by astronomers Trevor and Tina Leaman who will also kindle your interest in Indigenous skylore. They will pay particular attention to the local Wiradjuri people's knowledge of the heavens and its relationship to some of their cultural practices.
Before dusk, interested children and adults will be assisted by Tina to create fibre arts objects using materials and techniques employed by Indigenous people.
Uncle Gerald Power, an Orange based Indigenous caterer, and his team will produce on site wonderful warming bush tucka cooked over fire pits for everyone's enjoyment.
